Node Delegation

Pool operators have been able to delegate their own nodes to the pools they are operating since the beginning of the project. However, we are providing the ability for users that are not running pools to delegate their nodes to a public pool.
Delegating a node to a pool is vital for rewards. We are changing the rewards up a little bit. It used to be that you had to register your node in the cornucopias account website. This is still valid, but users will no longer be able to manage their registered state. Instead, users will be able to delegate their nodes to a pool. This delegation is an act of participation, and it will qualify the node for participation rewards. This change means that if your nodes for some reasons become ineligible, then the only recourse will be to delegate the node to a pool to begin receiving participation rewards again. If the node remains untouched and it is already registered, then the participation rewards will continue.
The pool fee represents the percentage of performance rewards that a pool operator receives from delegations. For example, if a pool sets a 50% fee, it will retain 50% of the performance rewards earned by each new delegation. This fee is fixed at the time of delegation, meaning any future changes to the pool’s fee do not affect existing delegators. So, if a pool increases its fee to 65%, only new delegations will adopt the updated rate, while existing ones will continue at 50%.
Currently, delegations do not automatically adjust when the fee changes, and pool operators cannot remove delegators. To apply a new fee to existing delegators, users must manually un-delegate and re-delegate, which results in forfeiting a day of rewards.
The public pool dashboard is a tool that should be used to browse the available pools and choose the best pool in which to delegate. Use the STAR icon to mark the pools to which you might be interested in delegating nodes. This will come in handy later. Pools can be configured to receive a maximum of 50 delegations. If a pool has received all of the their delegations, then it will not be a possible to delegate a node to that pool. Pools that have reached their maximum delegation limit will be clearly marked as FULL.
When looking for a pool to delegate to, look for availability and reliability. An important factor is that the pool is always on [check-ins] and that the pool serves a high percentage of the clients that download from the pool [success rate]. A pool that is fast is a pool that creates a better download experience. However, the speed of the pool may not affect the amount of rewards being earned.
Pools on the dashboard are sorted by availability, reliability, and speed. It is recommended to choose any of the pools that have at least 1 or more bars.
This will list out all of your nodes and display the current status of the node. If a node is un-delegated, click on the delegate button, and they will take you to a delegation wizard.
On the delegation wizard page, the node that you want to delegate should be highlighted. Click on more nodes if you want to delegate multiple nodes at a time.
The next step in the delegation process is to select the pool that you wish to delegate the selected node/nodes. There are three sections of pools:
Favorite Pools - These are the pools that you have STARRED on the public pool dashboard.
Public Pools - These are the pools that are publicly available for delegation.
Your Pools - These are the pools that are owned by you. You can delegate your nodes to your own pools.
Also, notice that there is a search box in case you are unable to find the pool in which you are looking to delegate.
Finally, there is a final agreement that needs to be accepted. This information is important because it will specify the amount of rewards that the pool will receive when performance rewards are distributed. For instance, If the pool is set at 10%, that means that for each reward cycle that the pool is active, the pool will receive 10% of the rewards and the owner of the node will receive 90% of the rewards.
Once you click this button, you will be returned to the manage node page, and the result of the delegation should be seen.
Note: Delegating to your own pools will not set any pool fees. This will be seen as 0%.
When a pool is receiving delegations from the public, be aware that the pool fee that is set for the life of the delegation. Pool operators do not have the ability to kick out delegations. However, a pool operator can set their pool as private, which will remove all delegations that are not self delegated. At this point, the pool can be made public and start to build up their delegations again. Be careful how often you do this as this will cause your existing delegates to miss out on rewards.
When delegating your node to a pool, know that the delegation is protected from any bait and switch schemes. Once the delegation is made, the fee % is locked for the life of the delegation. The delegation can come to an end if the node owner un-delegates the node. When a pool operator moves a pool from public to private, the public delegations are removed, which will also end the life of the delegation.
